Frequently asked questions
Where does the binary appear?
On its own line with the other three readings. There is no separate binary mode to switch into; the line is filled in as soon as a number is entered.
Can I type a negative number?
No. The panel reads whole numbers of zero or above, so a minus sign is outside what it accepts.
Do I need to press anything?
No. The four readings recalculate on each keystroke, so the binary form is ready as soon as you stop typing.
Is anything sent while I type?
No. The digits are converted by the page itself, so they stay in the tab and are not stored after you leave.
From a decimal number to bits
Tell the panel your digits are decimal, then type a whole number of zero or more. The binary line fills in as you go, and the octal and hexadecimal lines with it.
- The input base is the setting that decides how your digits are read, so it comes first.
- Binary, octal and hexadecimal are all views of the same value, which is why they move together.
