Frequently asked questions
Does it handle daylight saving?
The browser applies each zone's rules when it formats the reading, so a date inside a summer-time period is shown under that period's offset.
Why pick an IANA zone rather than an offset?
An offset changes across the year in many places. A zone name carries the rules, so the same name gives the right reading on any date you set.
Are all zones listed?
UTC and the major world zones are shown. A zone outside that list is not covered, so pick the nearest one that shares its rules.
Do my meeting details leave the tab?
No. The date, the time and the zone stay in the current browser tab. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored.
Setting a time across countries
Pick the date, the time and the IANA zone you are starting from. The same instant is listed in UTC and the major world zones, so a meeting time can be read off rather than worked out.
- Fix the instant in the zone you are sure about, then read every other zone off the same line.
- Quote UTC alongside local times in an invite, so a reader in an unlisted zone can still work it out.
- Check the date as well as the time; a late call in one zone is the next morning in another.
