Frequently asked questions
I have forgotten the password. Can this help?
No. The password has to be typed in for the file to open at all. Nothing is guessed and no encryption is broken, so a forgotten password stays a closed door.
Where does the password I type go?
Into the tab and nowhere else. It is used on your device to open the file, and it is gone when the tab closes.
Does it lift printing and copying limits too?
Yes. Once the correct password opens the document, the copy is written without any of the original restrictions on printing, copying or editing.
What happens to the file I started with?
Nothing. A second file is written alongside it. The protected original is unchanged on your device.
Two Kinds of PDF Password
This removes the password from a PDF you can already open. It is not a way past a password you do not have; there is no recovery here, and nothing is guessed.
- An open password is the one a reader is asked for. A permissions password limits printing, copying or editing.
- This works from the open password. Type it and both kinds of protection come off in the copy.
- A password you do not have is not a small obstacle here. Encryption is not broken and nothing is attempted.
- Ask whoever sent the document for the password. That is the only route back into a file you cannot open.
