Frequently asked questions
Can I go back to lower case?
Yes. Lower case is one of the same seven options. Capitals that were in the original will not come back, so keep the source text if you need it.
Are accented letters raised too?
Yes. The conversion is Unicode-aware, so accented letters are raised by the same rules as plain ones rather than being left behind.
Does it work on Chinese or Japanese?
Those scripts have no upper and lower forms, so there is nothing to raise. Latin words mixed into the text are converted as usual.
Is the text sent anywhere?
No. The conversion happens in this browser tab. Nothing goes to a processing server and nothing is stored in an account.
When capitals help and when they do not
Paste the text and pick upper case. Every letter is raised, including accented ones. Lower case sits next to it, so text that arrived shouting can be brought back down.
- Long stretches of capitals are slower to read, because the shapes of words flatten out.
- A headline set in capitals is better done with styling than typed in, so the underlying words stay intact.
- Upper case is a one-way trip: the original capitals cannot be recovered from the result.
- Check acronyms and product names after any case change, since a blanket rule ignores them.
