Why the color you picked can look off

The value read is the exact pixel under the cursor. Photographs are noisy, so the pixel beside it can differ, and JPEG compression shifts colors further near an edge.

  • Pick from a flat area rather than an edge. Edges carry compression artifacts that were never in the original color.
  • Screenshots hold their colors exactly. Photos carry the lighting and white balance the camera recorded.
