Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is my client's information uploaded?

No. Every field is read by the page in your own tab, the PDF is built there, and the file is handed to your browser to save. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is kept once the tab closes.

Can I put Chinese or Japanese on the invoice?

Yes. The built-in typefaces cannot set those characters, so the page is drawn instead of typed and comes out as a PDF that prints the same. The words in it are then part of the picture rather than selectable text.

Is this a legal invoice?

It is a document with the usual parts on it. What a valid invoice must carry — a tax number, a company number, particular wording — depends on where you are, so check your own rules before you send it.

Why is the total a cent off my calculator?

It should not be. Every line is turned into whole cents before anything is added, so the rows and the total always agree. If your calculator rounded each line differently, that is where the difference is.

Can I save the invoice and come back to it?

Not yet. Nothing is stored, which is the same reason nothing is uploaded. Keep the PDF, or keep the tab open while you work.

Background

What goes on an invoice

Fill in who it is from, who it is for, and what you are charging. The totals follow every keystroke and the PDF is written here in this tab.

  • Who it is from, who it is for, a number that is not used twice, and the date it was issued.
  • A line for each thing charged, with what it was, how many, and the price of one.
  • The subtotal, anything taken off, the tax, and the one figure that is actually owed.
  • When it is due and how to pay it — the two things a client looks for first.
