Why does Taiwan use 參 and Hong Kong use 叁?

They are the standard capital form for three in each place. Taiwan names 參; Hong Kong and the mainland name 叁. Both are correct where they are used.

Should I write 整 or 正 at the end?

Taiwan guidance names 整. Hong Kong accepts either. Both mean the amount ends there. Neither is written after 分.

Why is it 壹拾萬 and not 拾萬?

A bare 拾 at the front is easy to alter and guidance discourages it. The leading 壹 is always written, so the amount cannot be changed.

Does a Hong Kong cheque need both Chinese and English?

One is enough, and it must match the figure box. Many people write the one they are more confident in. Both are shown here.

Why will it not take three decimal places?

No cheque currency settles past two. Rounding it here would produce words that disagree with your figure, which is what gets a cheque returned.

What actually gets a cheque returned

Type the figure once. You get the Chinese capital numerals and the English wording, with all three regional forms shown together.

  • The words and the figures disagreeing. That is the failure this tool exists to prevent.
  • Ordinary numerals like 一二三 instead of capital forms. They are too easy to alter.
  • A gap between the currency name and the first character, which leaves room to insert a digit.
  • Any correction on the amount line. Banks will not accept an altered amount, even initialled.
