Frequently asked questions
Do I get octal and hex as well?
Yes. All four readings share one entry, so the octal and hexadecimal lines are already filled in when the decimal one is.
Can I enter a negative or a fraction?
No. The panel takes whole numbers of zero or above. A minus sign or a decimal point is outside what it reads.
Is the number sent to a server?
No. Parsing a base is arithmetic the browser can do on its own, so the value stays in the tab and is never transmitted.
How do I go from decimal back to binary?
Change the input base to decimal and type the number there. The binary line then shows the bits without any other change.
Reading four bases at once
Pick binary as the input base and enter a whole number that is zero or above. The decimal reading appears with the octal and hexadecimal ones, all four kept in step.
- One entry drives all four readings, so there is no separate step for octal or hexadecimal.
- The input base tells the panel how to read your digits, so set it before typing.
- Leading zeros in a binary entry do not change the decimal value it stands for.
- Nothing you type is stored, so a reload gives you a clean panel.
