Questions

Frequently asked questions

What if my ingredient is not one of the five?

Then this panel cannot weigh it. Flour, sugar, butter, rice and water are the densities it carries, and a conversion without a density would be a guess.

Can I go from grams back to cups?

Yes. Put grams on the input side and cups on the other. The ingredient stays the same, and the density is applied the other way round.

Why does a cup of flour differ from a cup of sugar?

Because a cup measures volume and a gram measures weight. The two only connect through density, which is different for each ingredient.

Is my recipe stored?

No. The amounts are converted by the page in front of you. Nothing is sent, and nothing remains once the tab is closed.

Background

Volume, weight and density

Choose flour, sugar, butter, rice or water, enter the amount in cups, and the gram figure uses that ingredient's density. Those five are the ingredients the panel carries.

  • Density is the bridge between a cup and a gram, which is why the ingredient is chosen first.
  • Flour, sugar, butter, rice and water are the five the panel carries.
  • Spoons, milliliters and ounces sit in the same menus as cups and grams.
  • Figures are rounded for reading, which is close enough for a kitchen scale.
