Frequently asked questions
What is a kaomoji?
A face built from ordinary text characters, read left to right rather than rotated: (◕‿◕) rather than :-). Because they are made of normal punctuation and letters, they paste into almost any field without needing an emoji font.
Will these work on Instagram and Threads?
Kaomoji and line-drawing symbols work in bios, captions and messages on both. Colour emoji need the reading device to have an emoji font, which phones do. Usernames are stricter than bios, so test there separately.
Why does one show as an empty box?
The device has no font covering that character. The text is not broken; it will look correct on a device that does have the font. Paste into your target app before committing.
Are these accessible?
Not really. A screen reader announces a kaomoji as a string of punctuation names, which is hard to follow. Use them in display names and decoration rather than in body text.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The library is a list inside the page and copying is a browser clipboard call. Nothing is sent anywhere, and the page works offline once loaded.
Which of these survive where
Search by what you want — cat, snow, bow, divider — or browse the categories. Every symbol copies with a single tap and pastes as real text, so it works in a bio, a caption or a message.
- Kaomoji are built from ordinary punctuation and letters, so they travel almost everywhere: bios, captions, messages and display names.
- Line-drawing characters such as ❀ ✧ ❄ ♡ render on essentially any device. Colour emoji need the reading device to carry an emoji font.
- Screen readers announce a kaomoji as a run of punctuation names. Keep them to display names and decoration, and leave body text plain.
