Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out my pace?

Choose pace, pick the distance, and enter the time you ran it in. The pace per kilometre and per mile appear together.

Can it predict a marathon time?

The table shows what each race distance takes at your current pace. Real marathon times usually run slower than a short-distance pace suggests.

Does it work in miles?

Distances are entered in kilometres, and every pace is shown per kilometre and per mile, so both are always in front of you.

What format should the time be in?

Hours, minutes and seconds, like 0:50:00. Pace is minutes and seconds, like 5:00.

Background

Pace, time and distance

Choose what you want worked out, then fill in the two things you already know. Common race distances are preset, and any other distance can be typed in.

  • Any two of pace, time and distance fix the third, which is why the panel only ever asks for two.
  • A pace held over five kilometres rarely holds over a marathon, so treat long predictions as a ceiling.
  • Even pacing usually beats starting fast, because time lost late is larger than time gained early.
  • A kilometre pace multiplied by 1.609 gives the mile pace, which is why both are shown.
