Frequently asked questions
How is the GPA worked out?
Each grade becomes points, the points are multiplied by the credits, and the total is divided by the credits counted.
What if my school weights honors courses?
Choose the weighted five point zero scale. It lifts every passing grade by one point, so it fits a school that weights every course. If only some of your courses are honors, this tool cannot lift those alone.
Does an A plus count as more than an A?
Only on the 4.3 scale, where it is worth 4.3. On the 4.0 scale both are worth four.
Why is a grade not being counted?
It was not recognized. Unrecognized grades are listed under the result so you can correct the spelling.
Some of my courses were skipped. Why?
A row with no credits, or zero credits, is left out quietly rather than listed as unrecognized — it has no weight to contribute. A grade that is not on the scale is listed as unrecognized.
Credits are what move the number
Add a row for each course, type the letter grade and the credits, and the GPA updates as you go. A table underneath shows the points each course contributed.
- A grade in a four-credit course shifts the average twice as far as the same grade in a two-credit one.
- Pass and fail courses usually carry no grade points and are left out of the average entirely.
- A cumulative GPA covers every term, so add all the courses rather than one term at a time.
- Schools differ on plus and minus values, so check yours before relying on a decimal place.
