Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I enter my lunch break?

Enter the total length of your break in minutes. For a one-hour lunch, enter '60' in that day's break field. You do not need to enter the break's start and end times.

What if I take multiple short breaks during the day?

add the durations of all your unpaid breaks together and enter the total sum in minutes for that day. For instance, if you took a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks, you would enter '60' in the break field.

Can I calculate my hours for a two-week period?

This calculator is designed for a seven-day week. To calculate hours for a bi-weekly pay period, you can complete the calculation for the first week, note the total, and then refresh the page to calculate the second week.

Does the calculator handle overtime pay?

The tool calculates your total hours worked. It does not apply any specific overtime rules, as these can vary significantly based on location and employer policy. You can use the final decimal total to apply your own overtime calculations (e.g., for hours worked over 40).

Is my time card data saved?

No. To protect your privacy, the tool performs all calculations in your browser and does not save or store any of the information you enter. If you close or refresh the web page, all the fields will be cleared.

Background

Handling Unpaid Breaks

Use the seven-day layout to log your shifts and unpaid break durations. The tool automatically subtracts breaks and provides daily and weekly totals.

  • This calculator tracks breaks by their total duration in minutes. You do not need to enter the exact start and end times of your break.
  • If you take multiple unpaid breaks, just add their lengths together. For example, a 30-minute lunch and a 15-minute break would be entered as '45' minutes.
