Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I enter my lunch break?

Enter the total length of your break in minutes. For a one-hour lunch, enter '60' in that day's break field. You do not need to enter the break's start and end times.

What if I take multiple short breaks during the day?

Add the unpaid breaks together and enter the total minutes for that day. Or tick the second in and out and clock out and back in, and the gap is left out on its own.

Can I calculate my hours for a two-week period?

Yes. Set the pay period to two weeks and the grid grows to fourteen days. Overtime is still tested week by week, so 45 hours followed by 35 is five hours of overtime.

Does the calculator handle overtime pay?

It splits regular from overtime at a threshold you set, forty hours a week by default. Switch the panel to 'Period and pay' to add an hourly rate and an overtime multiplier.

Is my time card data saved?

No. To protect your privacy, the tool performs all calculations in your browser and does not save or store any of the information you enter. If you close or refresh the web page, all the fields will be cleared.

Background

Handling Unpaid Breaks

Log each shift and its unpaid break. Breaks come off automatically, the daily and period totals follow, and the pay period can be one week or two.

  • This calculator tracks breaks by their total duration in minutes. You do not need to enter the exact start and end times of your break.
  • If you take multiple unpaid breaks, just add their lengths together. For example, a 30-minute lunch and a 15-minute break would be entered as '45' minutes.

Specification of the Time Card Calculator tool
What you enterA grid of days with in and out times and an unpaid break in minutes.
Pay periodOne week or two weeks. Overtime starts above a weekly threshold you set, forty hours to begin with.
Payroll roundingEach punch moves to the nearest mark: none, five, six or fifteen minutes. On quarters 9:07 becomes 9:00.
What comes backDaily and total hours, decimals to two or four places, and the overtime split.
PrintingOnce a line is filled in, Print or Save as PDF opens your browser's print dialog with the grid.
Where it runsEverything happens in your browser tab. The times and names never leave the device.
Order of operationsPunches are rounded first, then subtracted, then the break comes off. Rounding before the subtraction changes the total.
Week layoutA week starts on Monday. Choose a fortnight and each row is tagged week 1 or week 2 so the two are never confused.
Rows and clearingAdd as many rows as you need; there is no cap. Clear all empties the sheet in one go rather than row by row.
Rows in the resultA Days entered row sits with the total, so a week with three blank days is obvious at a glance.
