Frequently asked questions
What does TDEE actually count?
Everything a day costs: the energy your body uses at rest, plus what your activity adds on top. The activity level you pick is what turns one into the other.
Why is a resting figure shown too?
Because the daily total is the resting figure scaled by activity. Seeing both makes it obvious how much of the total your activity choice is responsible for.
Is this medical advice?
No. It is a general estimate from the values and formula shown. A qualified health professional can read measurements against your own circumstances.
Do my measurements go anywhere?
No. The arithmetic runs in this tab and the values are not sent to a server. Closing the page ends it.
Reading a daily energy estimate
Enter age, sex, height, weight and how active you are. The daily total appears next to the resting figure it is built from, so you can see where it came from.
- The activity level does most of the work here, so pick the one that matches an ordinary week rather than a good one.
- Estimates from different methods disagree by a noticeable margin, which is why the figure is a starting point rather than a target.
- Weight changes shift the number, so it is worth redoing rather than carrying an old figure around.
