Frequently asked questions
Can it split a bill by what each person ordered?
No. It divides evenly between however many are paying. For an itemized split, work out each person's items yourself and use this for the tip on the total.
Why is my share a fraction higher than the exact division?
Shares round up. Exact division often leaves fractions of a cent, and rounding down would leave the table short. The extra that rounding collects is shown.
Is the tip on the amount before or after tax?
On whichever figure you enter. Put in the pre-tax amount to tip on that, or the full total to tip on that.
The bill already has a service charge. What now?
Set the tip to zero, or add a small amount on top. The split still works on the figure you entered.
Splitting a bill so nobody is short
Put the bill in, set the tip on the slider, say how many are paying. Each share is shown, not only the total, and rounding up keeps the table from coming up short.
- Decide before anybody pays whether the tip goes on the pre-tax figure or the full one.
- Rounding each share up covers the fractions that exact division leaves behind.
- One person paying and the rest transferring is faster than splitting a card several ways.
- For an uneven table, work out each person's items first and split only the tip evenly.
