Frequently asked questions
Is the cropped content actually deleted?
No, the content is hidden by changing the PDF's view box, not permanently deleted. Some PDF viewers may allow users to revert the crop.
Can I set different crop areas for different pages?
No. One uniform crop area is applied to every page in the document, which is what keeps the result consistent.
Does cropping affect text selection or links?
The page content remains in the file, but its crop-box entries are changed. Underlying text and links remain intact but may fall outside the new visible area.
What happens if I switch to another tab while it works?
The work pauses and picks up where it left off when you come back. Browsers throttle hidden tabs, so a job left running in the background would slow to a crawl or stall outright.
Adjusting PDF Page Layout
Adjust the visible area of your PDF pages by setting a crop box visually. This is useful for removing unwanted margins or focusing on specific content.
- Crop a PDF to improve its layout and readability. Remove large white margins to make content fill the screen, ideal for smaller devices.
- Remove distracting elements like headers, footers, or page numbers. Help your audience focus on the main content in a presentation or report.
Full specification
| What goes in | One PDF. |
|---|---|
| Trim amount | A percentage off each edge: top, bottom, left and right, each from 0 to 45%. |
| Which pages | Every page is trimmed by the same amount. |
| Page fidelity | Pages are copied rather than redrawn, so text stays selectable and vectors stay sharp. |
| Document metadata | Title, author and producer stay with the file — it is edited in place, not rebuilt. Compress PDF's tidy setting is what clears them. |
