Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on a locked PDF?

Usually. The page count and sizes live in the document structure, which most locked files still expose. The result says clearly that the file is encrypted.

Why are my pages different sizes?

Because the PDF was assembled from several sources, or a scan came in at a size of its own. The result lists which pages are which size.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened in this browser tab and read there. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored after you close the page.

What is a point?

The unit PDFs are measured in: 72 points to the inch. An A4 page is 595 by 842 points, which is 210 by 297 millimetres.

Background

Why the page size matters

Drop a PDF and the count appears with the page sizes in millimetres and points, whether every page matches, the file size per page, and whether a password is set.

  • Print shops price by page count and by paper size, so both are asked for.
  • A mixed-size PDF often prints badly: pages are scaled to fit the largest one.
  • A scan added to a document is the usual reason one page differs from the rest.
  • Size per page is a quick way to spot which document needs compressing.
