How to

How to use Fake Chat Generator

  1. 1

    Name the chat

A name for the top of the window, and a line under it if you want a time showing.

  2. 2

    Write the lines

Pick a side, type a line, add it. The preview builds as you go and the arrows reorder it.

  3. 3

    Save the picture

A PNG lands on your device, with the mock-up line already drawn into the foot of it.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why is there a label on the picture?

Because a made-up conversation that cannot be told from a real one is the one thing this should not hand back. The line is drawn into the picture itself and there is no switch for it. Everything else about the tool is yours to change.

Can I use this for a presentation or a design mock-up?

Yes, and that is what it is for — slides, teaching material, app mock-ups, jokes and comics. The label sits quietly at the foot and does not get in the way of any of those.

Does it look like a particular app?

No, on purpose. The bubbles, the header and the colours are this site's own. Copying an app's exact look would make the result harder to tell from a screenshot, which is the opposite of what this is for.

Is anything I type uploaded?

No. The lines are read by the page in your own tab and the picture is drawn there. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is kept once you close the tab.

Can I use one of these as evidence?

No. Everything it makes is invented. Presenting one as a real message to a person, an employer, a platform or a court is a lie, and in many places a crime.

Background

What this is for, and what it is not

Type the lines, pick who says each one, and save the picture. It is for slides, teaching, jokes and design mock-ups — not for passing off as a real message.

  • Good for: slides, teaching, app mock-ups, comics, jokes and testing how a layout wraps.
  • Not for: anything anyone is meant to believe actually happened.
  • The label is drawn into the picture so a reader can tell what they are looking at.
  • No account is involved, which means nothing here can touch a real conversation.
