Frequently asked questions

How do I resize without distorting the image?

Enter only one dimension (width or height) to maintain the aspect ratio. If you enter both, tick 'Keep proportions' to avoid distortion. Untick it only if you want to stretch the image to fit an exact frame.

What size should I use for the web or social media?

Use 1920px for full-width web images, 1280px for articles. Instagram posts are 1080px wide. Profile pictures rarely need more than 800px. Larger images do not look sharper on screen, they just load more slowly.

Can I make an image larger?

Yes, up to 200% in Percent mode or any pixel value you type. Be aware that enlarging invents pixels by interpolation, so a small image scaled up will look soft. Resizing down always looks good; resizing up is a compromise.

Does resizing reduce quality?

Reducing dimensions removes pixels, so detail beyond the new size is gone, but the image is re-encoded at 92% quality and looks crisp at its new size. PNG output is lossless. If you need the original later, keep it — downsizing cannot be undone.

Are my files sent anywhere?

No. When you upload a file here, it is opened and processed in your browser and never sent to us. Resizing happens on your device using its own graphics pipeline, so nothing is stored and the page keeps working if your connection drops.

Pixels, not megabytes: what resizing does

Enter a width, a height or both; leave one blank and the image keeps its proportions. Every file shows its old and new dimensions and the resulting size.

  • Resizing changes pixel count; compression changes byte cost per pixel. Resizing to the final display size is the biggest file size saving you can make.
  • Batch resizing to a consistent width or height makes galleries and listings look tidy. Images align correctly without needing to be manually cropped.
