Frequently asked questions
Does JPG retain WEBP transparency?
No. The JPG format does not have an alpha channel, so any transparency from the source WEBP file will be lost during conversion.
Will I lose quality when converting from WEBP?
JPG uses lossy compression. A conversion may introduce minor quality loss, but a high quality setting will minimize this effect.
What happens to animated WEBP files?
If you open an animated WEBP, only the first frame will be converted into a static JPG image. The animation will be lost.
How many images can I add at once?
There is no fixed limit. Past about 500 MB the page warns you before it starts. Files with the same name get a number added inside the ZIP. Older browsers are told plainly that they cannot run this.
Can I get a photo under an exact size, like 200 KB?
Yes. Switch the quality control to target size, type 200 and pick KB. The page keeps the best quality that lands under your figure. For a 100 KB cap, use Compress Image to 100 KB.
WebP and JPG Compatibility
This tool converts WebP still images to JPG. This is useful when you need to use an image in an application that does not yet support the WebP standard.
- WebP is a modern format with excellent compression, but it is not supported everywhere. Converting to JPG ensures your image is viewable on any device.
- WebP features like animation and transparency are not supported by JPG. Only the first frame of an animated WebP will be converted, and transparency is lost.
