Frequently asked questions
When should I use JPG instead of PNG?
JPG is best for photographs where a smaller file size is important. PNG is suited for images with sharp lines, text, or transparency.
What happens to transparency?
The JPG format does not support transparency. Transparent pixels are flattened onto the background color used by the converter.
Can I convert back from JPG to PNG?
Converting the JPG back to PNG will not restore detail lost during JPG encoding.
How many images can I add at once?
There is no fixed limit. Past about 500 MB the page warns you before it starts. Files with the same name get a number added inside the ZIP. Older browsers are told plainly that they cannot run this.
Can I get a photo under an exact size, like 200 KB?
Yes. Switch the quality control to target size, type 200 and pick KB. The page keeps the best quality that lands under your figure. For a 100 KB cap, use Compress Image to 100 KB.
