Frequently asked questions
Will converting to PNG improve my image quality?
No. PNG avoids another lossy encoding step but cannot restore detail missing from the source JPG.
Why is the PNG file larger than the JPG?
PNG uses lossless compression, which stores more image data than JPG's lossy compression. This often produces a larger file but does not restore lost detail.
Does the new PNG have a transparent background?
No. This conversion does not remove the background or create transparent areas.
How many images can I add at once?
There is no fixed limit. Past about 500 MB the page warns you before it starts. Files with the same name get a number added inside the ZIP. Older browsers are told plainly that they cannot run this.
Can I get a photo under an exact size, like 200 KB?
Yes. Switch the quality control to target size, type 200 and pick KB. The page tries a range of quality settings and keeps the best one that lands under your figure.
Why Convert JPG to PNG?
