Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I crop to a specific aspect ratio?

This tool provides a freeform crop. Preset aspect ratios are not available.

Does cropping reduce image quality?

The selected area is retained, but output encoding may alter pixel data. The file size will be smaller because you are discarding parts of the image.

What happens if I crop an animated GIF?

Only the first frame of the animation will be cropped and saved. The output will be a static image, not an animated GIF.

Background

The Purpose of Cropping

This tool lets you crop an image by selecting a rectangular area. Drag the crop box, adjust its boundaries, and then export the selected portion.

  • Cropping improves a photo's composition. By removing distracting elements from the edges, you can draw the viewer's attention to the main subject.
  • It is also used to change an image's aspect ratio to fit specific dimensions, like a social media profile picture or a website banner.
