Frequently asked questions
Can I crop to a specific aspect ratio?
Yes. A row of presets sits above the picture — square, 4:5, 16:9, 3:2 and 9:16 — and Free lets you drag any box you like.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
The selected area is retained, but output encoding may alter pixel data. The file size will be smaller because you are discarding parts of the image.
What happens if I crop an animated GIF?
Only the first frame of the animation will be cropped and saved. The output will be a static image, not an animated GIF.
How many images can I add at once?
There is no fixed limit. Past about 500 MB the page warns you before it starts. Files with the same name get a number added inside the ZIP. Older browsers are told plainly that they cannot run this.
The Purpose of Cropping
Crop by dragging a rectangle over the part you want. Drag again anywhere on the picture to replace the box, pick a ratio, then export.
- Cropping improves a photo's composition. By removing distracting elements from the edges, you can draw the viewer's attention to the main subject.
- It is also used to change an image's aspect ratio to fit specific dimensions, like a social media profile picture or a website banner.
